Maximizing Opportunities of Miscanthus in Japan: Expansion of Germplasm Collection, Natural Hybrid Detection and Collection, Carbon Sequestration in Soils Developed Under Miscanthus
This project is expanding collection of Miscanthus germplasm throughout Japan to be used in crop improvement programs for commercial bioenergy production. This includes collecting new hybrids, evaluating their phenotypes, and importing the most promising germplasm. The amount, rate, and variation in carbon sequestration in long-established, managed monocuItures of Miscanthus and Miscanthus-dominated grassland on natural, non-drained sites is also being determined.
